Origin of Sheng

I am moving the following comment here, which was placed by Lukeprentice (sorry, not anonymous as I said in my memo on the article page) in the wrong place (under the reference section of the main article), and which I think belongs here. (A R King)

The origin of sheng cannot be said to be Nairobi. Sheng vocabulary originates from the major towns in Kenya, notably Nakuru, Kisumu, Mombasa and Eldoret. Nairobi can only be said to be a major contributor to Sheng as it is the biggest city in Kenya and can be said to be the meeting point of all Kenyan tribes and cultures. It can also be said that Nairobi's Sheng spreads faster than Sheng from any other Kenyan town. The crusaders of Nairobi's Sheng are mostly Primary, High School and University students. Most of these students study upcountry hence the Sheng they speak is adapted by residents there and accepted as a standard dialect so to speak.

English as a source

The article states that English words are a source of the vocabulary of Sheng. Hence the example vocabulary would benefit from some words which are clearly of English origin. Manning (talk) 03:30, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Pronunciation

What should be done about the constant changes to the lists of Sheng vocabulary?

Editors are constantly changing the vocabulary section of this article. I am not sure that this is helpful:

• 1) Sheng vocabulary is different in different places, so these changes may delete words that are correct Sheng words in certain locations.
• 2) Correcting vocabulary is against the general ethos of Sheng; Sheng is not rigidly standardized but is a very fluid way of speech, constantly changing.
