User:Tommertron
b. 1979, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to Dilys and Ed Robertson.
Just realized this is my only presence in a Google search right now (under Tommertron anyway) except for a question to a Hindi related web site that I posed for a proofreading gig I was doing a while back.
So... this is now my personal ego page.
About Me
Graduated Queen's University with a double major in History and Drama (well not officially history, but 1/2 a credit short of getting that.)
Really want to write for television someday, but right now I'm realizing maybe I'm not really that great a writer.
I was really pleased to discover Wiki. It's one of the best examples I think of showing how the Internet is really as revolutionary as the printing press was. I think it shows how having millions of connected people is truly a resource that can be used to do things no one's thought of in the past. (See also Slashdot, Google, Napster.)
I maintain a blog at http://technorants.blogspot.com. It's a compendium of rants about technology.
About my Name
Tom Arthur Robertson is my full name. In high school, some of my friends started calling me "Tommer," which I thought was a pretty unique variation on "Tom" until I realzed that quite a few people (according to Google searches anyway) use it.
I'm not sure why, but a few years back doing a play, I was pretty proud of myself for learning all my lines and started calling myself "Tommertron 2000: Acting Machine." Since then it's kind of stuck as my as my online alias (eventually dropping the 2000). I like it because it's easy to read, not written in stupid "h/\Ck3r" code, and beacause no one to my knowledge (or Google's) has ever used it before.
Wiki Contributions
Pages I actually started
Six Feet Under - Was really into the show and surprised there wasn't a page for it. Has been improved and polished a lot, but I think the tone and the structure of my original is still intact.
700 Club - No, I'm not religious, but for some reason noticed that there was no page for this show and started one. Still waiting for those main controversal aspects...
Johann Nepomuk Maelzel - Wrote a short (and failed, terrible) play with this guy as the main character, about him operating a phony chess machine in a game against Napoleon. Did a lot of research on him and the chess machine, and will eventually put the research into good use on Wiki, because the play, as I said, was failed and terrible.
Pages I've Contributed to Siginficantly
Eminem - Yes, I really do like Eminem. Whatever controversial aspects there are around him, it's just good music and pretty smart (if sometimes hateful) lyrics. I basically did an overhaul of the page to get rid of a lot of extranious info and tried to give it a structure based around his popularity and controversy. I still watch it regularly to make sure 15-year old nerds don't fuck around with it.
Kids in the Hall - Got rid of a lot of extraneous info and tried to make the article flow as one. I think this is the sort of thing I really like doing on Wiki, is seeing an article that seems like just a bunch of sentences thrown on by different people, and arranging those and changing the wording and grouping them by relevance. Check out the history of the page for what I mean...
(I took the Sopranos out because for some reason I thought I'd done a lot of work on it, but I think I just fixed a typo.)
There's a few others. I proof read for a long time and compulsively fix spelling or grammatical mistakes when I see them.
But that's about all for me. I really should learn how to format better. If somebody out there wants to be cool, they can format this page to make it look better.
