Yes, some people lose their sense of community when defending something they are passionate about. I suppose if the article stays I shall add {{expand}} to many of those one line soccer team articles. 50 and fifty are equally correct. Wikipedia is "correct", not necessarily "formal".

You said "50 => fifty, spelling out words in a sentence is considered more formal" and changed "50" to "fifty".

Names of numbers in English says:

Whether to use digits or words

According to your friendly neighborhood copy editor and/or English teacher, the numbers zero through nine should be "written out" – meaning instead of "1" and "2", one would write "one" and "two".

   Example: "I have two apples." (Correct)
   Example: "I have 2 apples." (Incorrect)

After "nine", one can head straight back into the 10, 11, 12, etc., although some write out the numbers until "twelve".

   Example: "I have 28 grapes." (Correct)
   Example: "I have twenty-eight grapes." (Incorrect)

Another common usage is to write out any number that can be expressed as one or two words, and use figures otherwise.

   Examples:

       "There are six million dogs." (Correct)
       "There are 6,000,000 dogs." (Incorrect)
       "That is one hundred and twenty-five oranges." (Incorrect)
       "That is 125 oranges." (Correct)

Numbers at the beginning of a sentence should also be written out.

Edit summaries

Hi, thanks for the advice. I do try and make edit summaries but only when I am particuarly angry (when I have deleted something that is obviously not suitable and that no-one else has deleted) or when I add a substantial amount of content to an article, like a new section or paragraph. Page protection

copula (statistics)

I think it's really inappropriate to have a section on copulas, in the sense in which that term is used in probability theory and statistics, within the article titled copula, because it is not at all the same thing as what that article is about. I've deleted the section and created a new article titled copula (statistics). The article titled copula treats the usual meaning of that word rather than the one treated in copula (statistics). Hi! Oh, i think you have the wrong impression about my comments on the John Kerry talk page. I am very cool. In fact, i am very happy to see that Rhobite (a biased editor from Amherst, Mass.) didn't get his way in trying to limit the information about Senator Kerry's admission to war crimes. I think it is Paul (Rhobite) who is upset as can be seen from his comments. I appreciate your care for my mental state however. I was indeed rather upset when Rhobite banned me for inserting the quote citing a 3-reversion rule which he, himself, violated (but didn't ban himself). Now that other editors were attracted to the issue and stated that Rhobite doesn't have the right to limit such vital information, i am very happy indeed. My personal message to Rhobite was the truth. He should not try to hide the flaws of his beloved Senator if he is to be a truly NPOV editor on Wikipedia. Wikipedia will eventually be taken more seriously as a source if editors like Rhobite learn to include rather than exclude. I come from China so i am very sensitive to people limiting information. Wikipedia should be about the truth. Don't you agree? So thanks for the attention! Don't eat too much ice-cream, it's bad for you, especially if you have diabetes :-(

I agree with you that any information deemed vital should always be included if true. However, information, while true can be presented in a misleading manner in such a way that people form the wrong impression because something is taken out of context. You do have to understand though that in a community where people are working together towards the same goal, name calling and verbal abuse are very disruptive to the process. Your opinions about other people in this community should be left in your head, not on talk pages. If you disagree with someone there are ways to deal with that. Just in the future, try your best to make this a place where people feel that they can exchange ideas freely, without being singled out or called a name. I don't disagree with you my friend. I really tried not to present it in a biased fashion. I was only including the information relevent to the war crimes issue. But the full quote is better if people are sensitive to my edit and i have always welcomed people to insert the full quote. I am very pleased to see it. I didn't insult anyone except for perhaps "tree-hugger" but that was meant to be an exaggerated joke. Sort of like calling a little girl a nazi for not sharing her toys. It was a joke and i meant it that way. It's hard to tell peoples' tone from words though. Sorry for the confusion. What i said to Rhobite was just the truth and i hope he takes the advice so he can better his own bias and make Wikipedia a stronger community. Be careful!

The decay energy of tritium is 18.6 keV, not 18.6 MeV! Fortunately it was in the article. But if you did other isotopes, you should probably go and double-check the decay energies, because that's a pretty nasty error - it's actually not a totally unreasonable value, but it's definitely wrong. --Andrew 03:22, Apr 29, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. I did in fact know that it was 18.6 keV. What happened was I made it easier on the person entering the data so they wouldn't have to type MeV, the table would generate it since so many radioactive isotopes decay in the MeV range. What happened was that when I was actually entering the data, I forgot it would come out to MeV. My RFA

Thank you for your comments on my RFA. Although the voting period just ended with a 14-8-2 vote, I will admit once and for all that I used it more as an evaluation of myself. Being promoted would have been a plus. I was more interested in who voted, when they voted, who would change their votes and when, and the comments I would receive. Hopefully I will correct the main weakness that was raised by those who voted oppose -- that I was too eager to put articles on VFD. Also, I will try to interact more with those Wikipedians who did not vote at all.

As for next month, I don't know if I will nominate myself again. I might not think about it until somebody else puts me up there on RFA at a later date. Eventually, I see myself as an admin, especially as the number of articles and users continues to grow. Thanks again and good luck at improving this vast archive of free knowledge. isotopes

I did know of your wikiproject. However, I wanted to get the isotope information in the element articles fixed and uniform first. This aspect is notably outside the scope of your project. If/when I get done I will happily aid you in your quest for an article for each isotope. Oooh, I didn't realize there was a full-fledged project. I just noticed that a few isotope articles had these ad-hoc html tables, so I replaced them with a uniform template. Feel free to edit it, of course - it probably needs spaces for the half-life, whether it decays alpha or beta, etc. Also I noticed that a lot of element articles like Uranium already had a table of common isotopes so I was wondering if that wasn't a better way to do it, rather than breaking it up into separate articles for each nuclide. Okay, thanks for calling me a prick, that's real mature. I alert contributors of copyright violations as a courtesy. I did you a favor by letting you know it was a violation in the event you never look back at the article. That way you know what not to do on Wikipedia.

As for citations, anybody could copy information and slap a citation at the end. What you did was not a proper way to cite a source. See this. Jeannemarie Devolites did not write that, her campaign staff did, a staff that gets paid money to maintain her website. We are not an encyclopedia that just copy pastes other peoples paid work. If you are disappointed that we did not have an article on her, then write on yourself, in your own words. Yes, you are correct, Sammy's page history is now on the Sega Sammy article which is a redirect page because Sega Sammy Holdings was already created and couldn't be moved there. Cleanup of Chicago Community Area Map Images

Feel free to clean up the images I submitted for maps of the Chicago Community Areas; I wanted to fix them myself but it has been low on my list. After I had uploaded the set of map images I noticed an error which you should be aware of an hopefully will be able to correct. Note (on the SE edge of all maps) that the East Side Community Area, Area Number 52, is incorrectly marked as Area Number 51 (In other words, the number 51 appears on both the South Deering and the ajacent East Side commnity areas}. — Gerry (talk) 14:25, May 14, 2005 (UTC)

revenues

One day I went to the Barnes & Noble article and made a small correction to the company infobox. Weeks later I come back to find ugly {{{revenue}}} and {{{industry}}} unused parameters in the infobox. So I go to the talk page of the company infobox and realize that someone added this new information to the template and didn't change many of the 400 infoboxes. So I'm adding the data because it reflects poorly on Wikipedia if nobody does this and we have ugly open parameters on all of the infoboxes. Do I plan on updating them when their revenues change? Engineer without a map

As a Purdue Enigineering Alumni and current resident of Uptown, I have a small problem with your community area editing.

You are trying to be an engineer, right? PLEASE learn how to read a map. Buena Park is a neighborhood in the Community Area of Uptown. Stop trying to change the boundaries of Lake View. They are static and officially defined by the City of Chicago.

As a resident of Uptown, your input is invaluable to helping accurately map the boundaries of the neighborhoods in the Community Area of Uptown. I am not a resident of Uptown, I live directly above West Ridge, so all I have to go on is a stack of Chicago maps and the help of others I know who live in those community areas. Several maps showed part of the Lakeview neighborhood to be in the bottom corner of Uptown. I also knew that Buena Park is an Uptown neighborhood, but could not find the exact boundaries, so I decided to leave it out of the image until somebody would come along and help me to place the neighborhood. The Community Area editing I've been doing is a lot of work and I am very serious about accuracy. My map reading skills have been called into question by you, so I would like further elaboration on what about my map reading skills are lacking? fair enough...

Sorry to imply any sort of insult, but I am a little upset with the continual assault on my neighborhood/community area. For years I've had to deal with people telling me that I live in some other neighborhood than Uptown when I am only a few blocks from "the uptown station". Your misguided edit of the Uptown article is just the latest in these annoyances.

Neighborhood maps are created by developers to sell property. Never trust that they represent anything other than the developer's own selfish interests. Uptown has a negative connotation to many yuppies, and therefore developers will invent new names to avoid the dreaded "Uptown" label in order to sell their $300,000 condos.

The City of Chicago defines 77 Community Areas, and are the only officially defined boundaries of the city's cultural divisions. Created in the early 20th century, there has been only one change to the community area map (Edgewater #77 was separated from Uptown #3).

The only area north of Irving Park Road that is in Lake View, is west of Clark street. Park Place Tower, the tallest building in Chicago outside of "downtown", is a good dividing point between the community areas. North of it is Uptown, south and including it is Lake View.

Furthermore I am a bit unsettled that my alma mater now accepts engineering students who don't know how to read maps. I pray and pray that you are better at nuclear engineering than map reading, for if you are ever allowed near any large nuclear device it may signal the end of life on planet Earth.

Well I was hoping I'd see more enthusiasm from other Wikipedians to help jump start the project, meaning beginning with four or five members so I've been waiting for more. I have to immediate goals I would also like to take care of. First is to deal with the "marblegrams". I'm wondering what should take its place. Also, put the color coding into effect by fixing all of the infobox images with the new coding. Ah, yes. It seems that, in the best traditions of democracy, you have allowed people to vote for features that everybody wants to have, but nobody is prepared to implement. Let's keep it simple, I say. With respect to the marblegrams, see my suggestion on the project Talk page. As for the infobox images, we should do a quick, straightforward first iteration with just a two-color scheme, red/blue for radioactive/stable. After the basic information is in place for all 3100 isotopes, we can always start a second iteration to add the more elaborate color scheme.

Chicago municipality infoboxes

Thanks, I'll be adding more here and there. Your city images are just great! Seeing the location adds a lot to the article. You may be right about the township affiliation; if so, listing one township is probably best, especially since the city/village is probably only slightly a part of another.

Just a question: I saw that you had changed a couple of population percentage changes compared to 1990. I'm not sure where the 1990 numbers are listed on census.gov, but here is a document that would support the other figures. The Sun Times' website also lists these figures. Can you point me to the link where you were getting your numbers? HollyAm 03:10, 27 July 2005 (UTC)

Exactly, not having the location mapped out in these articles definately lessens the significance a bit.

About the percentage changes, that source you linked is great. I was doing the percentages by hand using the 1990 and 2000 populations from the census.gov homepage by typing in each city name. I just figured out I was making a small mistake sometimes but not all the time.

The correct method to use (this was without the aid of your handy link) was (2000pop - 1990pop/1990pop) * 100. What i was doing wrong sometimes was dividing by 2000pop instead. I'll fix my mistakes. Both of our sources are fine, I was just making unnecessary calculations leading to some errors. Chicagoland

I can understand the possible desire to change the wording, and I see that Porter County, Indiana, is still listed on the separate Chicagoland page, but I am curious about why you (a year ago) edited the mention of Chicagoland out of the Porter County page, with your summary seeming to indicate that Porter County is not part of Chicagoland. There is no standard when talking about the counties included in Chicagoland because Chicagoland is not a real place, just a conceptual name for the outlying communities of Chicago. Everyone has a different opinion when it comes to what consitutes inclusion into "Chicagoland". Talk to someone thirty years ago and they'll tell you that Chicagoland has five counties. Two years ago, the Chicagoland article listed one county (Lake) in Indiana as part of Chicagoland. Last year the article listed two counties in Indiana that were part of Chicagoland. This year it's five counties. Clearly as you can see, it's very debatable and technically you could call the entire midwest Chicagoland. I noticed in the map of the West Ridge area of Chicago and others bordering it that the North Shore Channel is called the Chicago River in the maps. This is not accurate, The Channel flows into the Chicago River, but is not actually the River. Because I do not have Macromedia I am unable to change it.

I recently replaced the Geobox in West Chicago, Illinois with Template:Chicagoland municipality, but I do not know how to generate the US-IL-Chicagoland-West Chicago.png file for it. I do have a question: how do scientists agree that an isotope is stable? I remember seeing this for some element (cadmium?) that ppl say there are x stabe isotopes and y more that are theoretically unstable but thier half lives has not been measured yet (i.e. is too long). how many of the elements today have isotopes that are theoretically unstable but are still unknown in practice yet?
