Martin Lawrence (born April 16, 1965) is a actor, comedian, and producer.
Martin Lawrence was born in Frankfurt, Germany. His mother is Chlora Lawrence which is a former cashier and his father was in the U.S. military. In 1973 Lawrence's parents were divorced.
After his father got out of the service he moved to Queens one of New York City's boroughs and then he moved to Lanover, Maryland.
Lawrence was encouraged to pursue a comedy career as a teenager by a school teacher who gave him the last few minutes of every class to entertain his fellow students.
Several years later, Hollywood talent scouts noticed Lawrence on Star Search.
By 1986 Lawrence had his own cable show called One Night Stand, which paved the way for him to host Russel Simmons' Def Comedy Jam for two seasons.
By 1987 he made his first regular television role, as the smart-mouthed busboy on the syndicated series "What's Happening Now!"
Lawrence made his motion picture debut playing a minor role in Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing. This led to another minor role in House Party, and the a more prominent role in Eddie Murphy's Boomerang.
Finally, in 1991, Martin got his first starring role in a cinema project called Talking Dirty After Dark, a fun movie that all Lawrence fans will enjoy watching.
By 1992 he produced the sitcom Martin (1992-1997) which now is syndicated on many networks. He also made such motion pictures during his career as a producer such as You So Crazy (1994), A Thin Line Between Love and Hate (1996), Big Momma's House (2000), What's the Worst Thing That Could Happen? (2001), Black Knight (2001), Martin Lawrence Live: Runteldat (2002), and National Security (2003).
He has played in the motion picture Life (1999) with Eddie Murphy co-star as two New York City moonshine whiskey smugglers who are falsely charged with murder, then end up wrongfully imprisoned for life. He even played a role in Blue Streak (1999) about a jewel thief.
Lawrence was married to Patricia Southall, former Miss Virginia in 1995. They divorced in 1996.
By 1996 he won a NAACP Image for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Martin.
He is no longer using drugs, alcohol, and weapons and currently resides in Loudoun County, Virginia.
