- 1853 – The first passenger train in India is inaugurated between Bori Bunder, Bombay, and Thana covering a distance of 34 kilometres (21 mi).
- 1911 – William Alexander McFall, locomotive engineer for Canadian Pacific Railway who drove the first passenger train over the Interprovincial Bridge, posthumously awarded the King Edward Medal for his actions in preventing further death in a derailment on April 14, 1911, dies.[1]
- 1993 – Indian Railways opens the line between Bangalore and Mysore.[2]
- 2005 – Alaska Railroad opens its new headquarters building and operations center in Anchorage, Alaska.[3]
