Harringay vs Haringey

What is the difference or significance of the two different names then? I'm interested!

To quote from Wikipedia itself: "Harringay is an area of North London, in the London Borough of Haringey (note the different spelling)."

The borough is Haringey; however Haringey much like other boroughs in London consists of many places, including Harringay. There is a pub in Crouch End called The Harringay Arms.

Err - well not really! I accept that there are two different spellings, and that Haringey is the London Borough and Harringay is a place within the Borough (exactly where?? somewhere near Crouch End?? I guess I can consult a map for that!) But the real question is why are there the two different spellings, and how did they diverge. Is there some historical reason etc. Does that make more sense? I thought it would add interest to the article if you had mentioned the origins of the different names, as well as making the point that they are different! Duncan Smith 11:31, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)
