Name Discussion
[edit]Should this be "St. Thomas Episcopal Church, New York"? Although this is undoubtedly the best-known Episcopal parish by that name, there are many. rockhopper10r 22:21, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
If no one objects, I will move this page to "St. Thomas Episcopal Church, New York" rockhopper10r 05:38, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)
I went ahead and moved it. I think it is more appropriate this way. rockhopper10r 06:42, 26 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- If we had more than one article on St. Thomas Episcopal Church, that would be one way to differentiate them. But we only have one. Do you know of another identically named church that needs an article? If so you should create a disamgibuation page at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, and change all the articles that point there to redirect to the appropriate article. - Nunh-huh 06:49, 26 Feb 2005 (UTC)
The following link notes that there are 149 churches with "St. Thomas" in the name in the ECUSA. To leave off the city implies that there is only one. It also reminds me of the famous New Yorker cartoon of "A New Yorker's View of the World". If another St. Thomas Episcopal Church article is created, then a disambiguation page would be appropriate. For now, I really think this clearer article name (to which "St. Thomas Episcopal Church" still directs) is best. http://www.rci.rutgers.edu/~lcrew/joyanyway/joy252.html rockhopper10r 07:48, 26 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- That might be true if any of the 149 churches merited an article. If you had written an article on any one of them, you would have actually increased the inclusiveness of Wikipedia. Instead, you disguised the need for other articles, and converted four direct links into redirects and didn't bother to fix them. - Nunh-huh 03:33, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)
The links have all now been updated. I appreciate your input. Thank you.rockhopper10r 06:47, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)
There needs to be a section about St. Thomas's renowned choir of men and boys. The currently article misses the point. It is almost entirely about the notable architecture, and has one sentence about the music program. A nice start would be to have a list of the Organist and Head of Choristers in chronological order. Deputydog23 22:35, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Organs
[edit]There also needs to be a section about St. Thomas's main Organ, and the smaller organ in the back of the church that was recently built. St. Thomas has an excellent organ tradition that should be included in this article.
Dates needed for organists, please. Deputydog23 00:16, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
edits, and Copyright violations
[edit]Most of the text of this article is a bulk copying of the church's website, I intend to delve into that in the next few days. I'm not going to tag it, just rewrite the stuff, citations, etc. I also improved the introduction to be more expansive regarding the church, it's history, and it's connections to the choir and the choir school. More to come. —ExplorerCDT 22:54, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

'High' Gothic'
[edit]Visiting the church myself it seems more late gothic, with its extensive ornamentation and ogive curves, but I'm not an expert. Wilhelm Ritter 01:32, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Removed from Worship section
[edit]"The preaching is almost uniformly tedious, while the ceremonial serves only to highlight the theory that the longer the service, the less one pays attention."
I've removed this. Tompw (talk) (review) 00:02, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Infobox date
[edit]The date 1823 should be replaced by 1914 or at least the latter be added. Otherwise it's confusing the readers by suggesting that they are looking at a church built in 1823 which they are not. --24.185.7.139 (talk) 19:31, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
