I've been trying to block 68.187.13.154 for repeated vandalism, but I don't get the usual block link, and he can't be found in the list of blocked IPs. I suspect maybe someone banned the range he's in. Is there any way to be sure? Mgm|(talk) 19:53, Dec 1, 2004 (UTC)
Under User talk:Dino, you note:
- == Congratulations, Dino, and Sorry! ==
- Sorry to hear about your metacarpal, but on the positive side, it's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia | explains it all ® 20:40, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Thanks! My editing / admining / Elvis impersonations may be lean until December 30 when this &%*(#($ cast comes off. Getting used to using a mouse left-handed (I'm right handed). If I get lost or am unsure about an admin thing, maybe I'll drop you a note.
Still trying to find a public domain image of one of my favorite pulp writers, Mickey Spillane. It may take time.

Article Licensing
[edit]Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)
RFC pages on VfD
[edit]Should RFC pages be placed on VfD to be deleted? I'm considering removing Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Slrubenstein, Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Jwrosenzweig and Wikipedia:Requests for comment/John Kenney from WP:VFD. Each of them was listed by CheeseDreams. Your comments on whether I should do this would be appreciated. - Ta bu shi da yu 03:26, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Cheers mate.
[edit]Want to tell that to User:Silsor who blocked me? - Ta bu shi da yu 04:23, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Select admins
[edit]I understand what you're saying, but that's awful! How am I meant to get consensus amongst admins if I only ask admin "allies"? Surely that's skewing the system for your own means? Ta bu shi da yu 04:39, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Ah. I see what you mean. Sounds fair :) BTW, thanks for defending me. I appreciate it. Ta bu shi da yu 04:46, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
RFC on myself
[edit]Well, if it was Selsor, this would be seen as attacking him. And I wanted to solicit comments on my own behaviour as well as whether the way the block was applied to me was fair and kosher. Do you think I should withdraw it? Two people have already commented. Incidently, I'm about to start Wikipedia:Administator's noticeboard. However, in this case I would like to tell all admins about it, so I'd like to send a message to all admins. Yet this will be classed as spam and I'll get blocked again! So what do I do here? Not tell anyone? - Ta bu shi da yu 05:34, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Greets
[edit]Thanks for starting an article on the International Workers Order! Just wanted to bring to your attention that I uploaded their logo. Bit by bit, I'm working offline on a greatly expanded version of this article, hopefully it will be ready in a few weeks. I don't know how active your interest in that organization is, but I've been kind of obsessed ever since my grandfather started telling me about it... --Brian Z 02:45, 12 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Movin' On Up
[edit]Salve, Cecropia!
Thanks for your note re my adminship promotion. I was very happy to see such nice comments from our fellows in the voting.
Out of curiosity, what did you have to do to give me admin status? Ave! PedanticallySpeaking 19:44, Dec 16, 2004 (UTC)
Terrorism
[edit]I hate to bug you about this, but the terrorism article has gotten obnoxiously POV again. I reverted a rewrite a bit ago, but Stevertigo has put it back in and I don't have the time or energy to deal with this. If you do, could you trim the introduction back to something reasonable? Isomorphic 21:03, 16 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks. I trimmed out a bit of the worst and the blatantly inaccurate, and a couple others have done a bit, but it's still flaky. I hoped that since you'd worked on it before and seem to know the issues well, you might be able to do something with it. If you'd rather stay away from the mess, it'd be understandable.
- It's interesting to note that the new additions seem always to be in the intro. The result, besides being POV and distorted, is a terribly structured article. Isomorphic 23:31, 31 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Arbcom Election Results
[edit]Only three votes short!! Recount, recount! Actually I'm happy with all the people that got elected, but I would have liked to see you win. Unfortunately it turned out I didn't get to vote because I haven't been a member long enough, but next time... --MPerel 03:52, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)
- Don't worry, the Green Party is going to dispute the election. I'm crushed, and for a moth, that's serious! ;-) Cheers, Cecropia | explains it all ® 04:02, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Oh! So close. Sorry you didn't make it into the ArbCom. You would have been a great arbitrator. But look at it this way: you now get most of the credit (by being just a few votes shy) but without any of the responsibility. Cheers! – Quadell (talk) (help)[[]] 18:08, Dec 20, 2004 (UTC)
Cachet
[edit]I just wanted to let you know how thrilled I am to finally see someone on the internet who knows how to use cachet correctly instead of saying cache. [1] --Michael Snow 05:05, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)
My promotion
[edit]Hi Cecropia. Looks like it was you who just granted me sysop access, so I'd like to thank you. I'll read the guidelines and get in touch with the way things work for admins here. I'll do my best on following those rules and administrating articles now.
Again, thanks, and Merry Christmas! --Kaonashi 05:53, 25 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Staten Island
[edit]I am seeing all the good work you are doing on mass transit articles, or whatever we want to call them. I have been doing some research on Henry H. Rogers (1840-1909). One of my sources states that he was long the "transit magnate of Staten Island". I haven't been able to find out anything more, although Rogers lived in Manhattan, had ties to Greenpoint in Brooklyn, has involved in other rail operations including Union Pacific, Erie, Lackawanna, Deepwater, Tidewater, Virginian, Ohio River Railroads. He was also involved in multiple ventures with Abram S. Hewitt, a former NY mayor who has been called the father of the NY subway. With your location and interests, I thought you might have leads for me. Here is the link if you want to see what I have been unable to come up with so far.
Thanks for any help, and your collaboration of the other articles. Vaoverland 07:09, Dec 28, 2004 (UTC)

New York City
[edit]Hello, I've started WikiProject New York City, and from your edits it seems you might be interested. See its talk page for the beginning of a discussion on the standardization of neighborhood names, and bringing New York City up to featured status.--Pharos 13:26, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Hi. You write:
- I also added a paragraph to the "Funicular" section emphasizing the conceptual difference between the two. Do you think that para should be nearer the top of its section?
I think it reads well where it is. I suggest leaving it where it is. If there is another rash of funiculars added to the article, we can always reconsider. Thanks for the nice words, BTW. -- Chris j wood 00:40, 31 Dec 2004 (UTC)
