Why is Jerusalem listed as Israel's capital in the infobox?
Israel declares Jerusalem to be its capital, and has its seat of government there. However, the lack of international recognition is notable, hence the subtext was added "(limited recognition)" as the result of this RfC. For further information see Status of Jerusalem. |

I was wondering if you would be able to add as a source to this line: Membership of the Knesset is based on proportional representation of political parties,[327][better source needed] with a 3.25% electoral threshold, which in practice has resulted in coalition governments. for the better source the book הסיפורה של הפוליטקה הישראלית by עמית סיגל. Israeli Apartheid
[edit]Since the delivery of the ICJ's advisory opinion in July, should the accusation of Israeli Apartheid be listed in the opening section? JPHC2003 (talk) 20:43, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- No. Andre🚐 20:58, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- Why not? AnarchistHistory (talk) 00:29, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- The lead section is a summary of the most salient points about the topic, not a place for recent news. Andre🚐 00:35, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- How is the ICJ categorical condemnation not salient enough to be mentioned? Dragonsaige (talk) 08:08, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- That would have to be one of the most important events in the entirety of everything about Israel, which it isn't. See WP:WEIGHT. That probably seems rather important to us in 2024 due to WP:RECENTISM. See WP:NOTNEWS Andre🚐 08:10, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- It's possible the merit of its inclusion will be clear in the future, once it is integrated into the historical record. Remsense ‥ 论 08:11, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- Just to be clear that at this point the ICJ has indicated a breach of Article 3 of ICERD, including "racial segregation and apartheid" without specifying which and developments from CERD/UNGA are awaited. This is actually an important development but no point in discussing it on this page just yet. Selfstudier (talk) 09:04, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- There is an entire section about apartheid in the body, and this should be summarized and reflected in the lede without censorship. Makeandtoss (talk) 10:46, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- The article says "Israel's practices in its occupation of the Palestinian territories have drawn sustained international criticism along with accusations that it has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Palestinian people from human rights organizations and United Nations officials."
- "Crimes against humanity" (which I just wikilinked in the article) includes apartheid so it is mentioned in the lead indirectly. If at some point, a UN body specifically asserts apartheid (in addition to all the others that have asserted it), then I think there is a case for mentioning it in the lead. Since the death toll of Israeli civilians is on the page, i feel as if it is only right to have the Palestinian death toll stated on the page as well. Where it states that approximately 1300 Israeli civilians were murdered, it must also state that approximately 41000 Palestinians were murdered in the conflict as of October 3rd 2024 since it makes light of a one sided description. Source: https://abcnews.go.com/International/israel-hamas-war-death-toll-1-year/story?id=114458943 AgonShqiptani (talk) 13:17, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- Not done: That section is not about the war as a whole, it's about the events that occurred on October 7 2023 – macaddct1984 (talk | contribs) 14:03, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- No, the section mentions that the palestinians launched an attack leading to the israel-hamas war. I dont know about you but that obviously means that the war was mentioned and therefore the complete number casualties must be stated, or it leads to a very biased source of information to only mention the casualties of one side. Theres absolutely no reason for it to not be stated. The section is about the 21st century events that are ongoing about Israel, which caused those casualties. - Please see the notice I placed on your user talk page. While you are allowed to make edit requests, those should be uncontroversial proposed edits, as you aren't allowed to edit about this topic until you are extended-confirmed(account is 30 days old with 500 edits); you don't yet have 500 edits. 331dot (talk) 19:44, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for informing me about contentious topics. Although whether its controversial or not, it is a fact. Very simple to understand i believe. No way you can prove that this situation is very biased and onesided. AgonShqiptani (talk) 19:54, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- This is controversial because you are debating it with the reviewer of your request. Edit requests should only be made if the proposed edit does not generate a debate- it should be something simple like fixing spelling, or you should first gain consensus for the proposed edit before making your request- and you can't do that since you can't edit about the topic until you have 500 edits. 331dot (talk) 20:01, 9 October 2024 (UTC)

Minor Edit
[edit]I can't make this edit as I don't have 500 edits yet, but
However, efforts to resolve the Israeli–Palestinian conflict after the interim Oslo Accords have not succeeded, and the country has engaged in several wars and clashes with Palestinian militant groups.Israel's practices in its occupation of the Palestinian territories have drawn sustained international criticism—along with accusations that it has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Palestinian people—from human rights organizations and United Nations officials.
needs to have a space between the two sentences.

Putting in American financial support for Israel in the very first paragraph of the lead
[edit]Would it be appropriate to put in American financial backing for Israel over the years in the very first paragraph of the lead? I don't think so, but one user appeared to support the idea[1], so I thought to start a discussion. Pinging (RCSCott91—Selfstudier—ABHammad—Eladkarmel—Czello—Galamore—האופה). - @Vice regent, no, I do not think so. The article is not about the United States, and such prominent characterizations of bilateral support or dependence are best reserved for historical polities where the book is closed and the motor of history has moved on.
